Borrowing

University of Guelph students (including co-op), faculty, staff and retirees can find details of their borrowing privileges below. Upon request students not-registered can maintain privileges for up to two consecutive semesters. Distance education and open learning students see special instructions. Alumni and Guelph community members see borrowing policy exceptions.

Your University of Guelph ID card is your library card; new faculty and staff and those issued a replacement card may need to register their ID card

Borrowing information for resources in Trellis or at Guelph

on-campus and 24-7 off-campus use of electronic resources
borrow an unlimited number of books for two weeks
- faculty, graduate students, contract sessional, staff, and retired faculty and staff can borrow an unlimited number of books for a semester
place a hold or recall request in Trellis on eligible material
some materials have restricted loan periods ie. 3 day loans
renew books online or in-person an indefinite number of times barring any holds or recalls on the item
borrow in-house course reserve material (2 hour loan) and wireless laptops
borrow A/V materials - videos, compact discs, dvds (one day loan and no renewals)
access group study rooms in the library
subject to fines and sanctions
Non-circulating items include: periodicals and journals, some government publications, archival material, theses, reference material, maps, some films and newspapers
book an appointment to visit the Tri University storage facility (TUG Annex)

Borrowing information for resources NOT at Guelph

request books and journal articles from the University of Waterloo, Wilfrid Laurier campuses or the Tri University storage facility (TUG Annex) through Trellis-TUGdoc request
request journal articles or books through the interlibrary loan system - Racer
- faculty, graduate students, contract sessional, staff, and retired faculty and staff can also order material from CISTI Source and Ingenta. Contact your librarian
borrow directly from most Canadian universities through the Canadian University Reciprocal Borrowing agreement
