Message from the President of Volunteer Canada

With great pleasure, Volunteer Canada launches its 2007 National Volunteer Week (NVW) campaign!

National Volunteer Week, April 15 to April 21, pays special tribute to Canadian volunteers across the country who give of themselves to better their communities and the lives of others. Volunteers Grow Community remains the theme for NVW this year as so many of you have commented on its appropriateness for this springtime celebration!

Volunteer Canada's focus once again is on celebratory events. Last year when we put the call out to encourage all Canadian volunteer-involving organizations to hold a special celebration to recognize their hard-working volunteers, they responded in droves! Hundreds of celebratory events sprang up around the country and were registered on the NVW website. This year the energy levels and enthusiasm are sure to match, if not surpass, those of 2006. Please be sure to register your event so that the magnitude of NVW celebration in Canada can be experienced by all!

The National Volunteer Week website is your source for information on NVW and will help you kick-start your own campaign. Submit your event plans online and take a look at what others are doing. Read over the Campaign in a Kit for event ideas, promotional tips and more, and feel free to customize to your needs. Be sure to take advantage of the material available to support your events-it's all free! This year we're offering postcards, posters and a variety of templates to help support your efforts to promote volunteerism and celebrate your volunteers.

The contributions made by Canadian volunteers are a fundamental part of every community. Volunteer Canada promotes National Volunteer Week with the generous support of Investors Group and the Government of Canada. Please join with us, April 15 to April 21, in honouring volunteers across this nation.

Sincerely,

Marlene Deboisbriand
