How to find items in the AV and Media collection

All items are included in the TRELLIS catalogue. To limit your search to audiovisuals, click the button called "All search limits" and choose the appropriate limit for the type of item you want. E.g. In the Medium list, you can choose Sound recording, Videorecording or Motion Picture. If you can't find something, ask us.

Borrowing and using items from the audio-visual collection

• Most items in the AV collection can be borrowed for use outside the Library on a one-day loan.
• Some additional videos and CD's which are required course materials are located at the Reserve desk and can be borrowed for in-library use only on a 2-hour loan.
• Up to two AV items at a time can be borrowed.
• Videos, CD's and other materials are protected with plastic security cases or wire wraps that need to be removed by a Circulation staff member before the item can be used.
• If you are interested in borrowing an AV item, or wish to use it in the Library, please take the item to the Book Return desk to have the security case removed and the item charged out to you.
• One day loan items are due the following day at the LIbrary closing time.
• Overdue one day loans are fined at the rate of $5.00 per day.
• AV materials which are on 2-hour Reserve are fined at the rate of $0.05/minute, or $3.00/hour.

Booking audio-visual materials for classroom showings

• Most items in the audio-visual collection, including videos and 16 mm films (motion pictures) can be taken out of the library to be used in classrooms on campus.
• Films, videos and CD's must be booked at least one business day prior to the day they are required for a classroom showing. Booking requests can be made in person at the Reserve and Media Services desk, by phone at extension 52097, or by e-mail at libres@uoguelph.ca.
• Previously booked films, videos and other AV materials may be picked up at the Reserve and Media Services desk throughout the Library's opening hours.

Location of the collection

• McLaughlin Library
  The Library's collection of videotapes, CD's, slides and other audio-visual media is located in a publicly accessible area on the 2nd floor near the photocopy room and Research Help Desk in McLaughlin Library.
• OVC Learning Commons (map)
  A small collection of AV items is also located at the OVC Learning Commons library.
• Annex (map)
  The Library's collection of vinyl records (phonodiscs) is located at the Annex, our off-site storage facility. Records can be retrieved from the Annex by placing a hold on the required item in the TRELLIS catalogue. The item will be available at the designated pickup desk on the following business day
