Revenue Minister O'Connor Announces New Online Service Additions to the Canada Revenue Agency's My Business Account

Ottawa, Ontario, October 23, 2007…Gordon O'Connor, Minister of National Revenue, announced the addition of several new features to the Canada Revenue Agency's (CRA) My Business Account suite of electronic services for businesses.

“Our Government continues to deliver on its goal to meet the needs of business taxpayers for faster, secure, and expanded online access to tax services,” said Minister O'Connor. “We understand that small businesses are essential to economic competitiveness and we must do everything we can to help taxpayers meet their obligations. The new My Business Account services are a significant improvement in service delivery, and achieve some of the CRA's Action Task Force on Small Business Issues recommendations to reduce red tape for small businesses.”

Judy Collyer, representative for the Certified General Accountants Association of Canada and a member of the Action Task Force on Small Business Issues agrees, “With CRA's My Business Account, my business clients can have at their fingertips the important information that they may need to make informed decisions.”

My Business Account allows users to access a multitude of electronic services for businesses with a single user ID and password. The new My Business Account services include:

  • Authorize or manage representatives: a highly anticipated online service that allows business owners to authorize an employee, an individual, a firm or an individual of a firm to have access to their business account information, view information for a representative, and cancel or add authorization from a representative.
  • View account balance and transactions: allows users to view transactions for an account's payment period end or for a customized timeframe.
  • Nova Scotia Partnership: enables business owners to access their Service Nova Scotia and Municipal Relations and/or Workers' Compensation Board of Nova Scotia accounts by linking to the Nova Scotia Business Registry through My Business Account, without having to re-enter identification information.
  • Softwood Lumber Products Export Charge: provides online access for softwood lumber export businesses to view transaction details, endorsements, account balance, correspondence, addresses and make online requests.

In 2008, the list of services offered through My Business Account will continue to grow, offering business owners and their representatives an increased range of personalized business information and services.
