Small theatres bring controversial Rachel Corrie play to Canada

A one-person play based on the life of an American activist who died protesting the Israeli occupation in Gaza, My Name is Rachel Corrie is one of the most contentious dramas of the last decade. While it was staged in London, there was resistance to the play in both New York and Toronto. On Nov. 15, Rachel Corrie begins a stint at the Sage Theatre in Calgary, following in other Canadian cities in 2008. CBCNews.ca spoke to the Calgary production team about the controversy, the play’s dramatic potential and the lessons audiences should draw from it.
