Auditor General's May 2007 Report tabled in the House of Commons

Ottawa, 1 May 2007—The Auditor General of Canada's second Report to Parliament in 2007 was tabled today in the House of Commons.

The Report includes two chapters on audits performed at the request of standing committees of the House of Commons. The audit of the management of the RCMP's Forensic Laboratory Services followed a request by the Standing Committee on Justice, Human Rights, Public Safety and Emergency Preparedness. And the audit of the Canadian Agricultural Income Stabilization program was performed after receiving a request from the Standing Committee on Agriculture and Agri-Food.

The Report also covers the management of human resources at the Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade, federal loans and grants for post-secondary education, the modernization of the NORAD system in Canada, the management of legal services provided to government, and the use of acquisition and travel cards.

The titles of the chapters and news releases are as follows:

Chapter 1. Use of Acquisition and Travel Cards

Chapter 2. Federal Loans and Grants for Post-Secondary Education—Human Resources and Social Development Canada and Canada Millennium Scholarship Foundation
"Financial assistance programs for post-secondary students are managed well"

"Serious problems need urgent attention"

Chapter 4. Canadian Agricultural Income Stabilization—Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada

Chapter 5. Managing the Delivery of Legal Services to Government—Department of Justice Canada
"Better management of legal services needed"

Chapter 6. Modernizing the NORAD System in CanadaNational Defence
"Delays, cost overruns mark project to modernize NORAD system"

Chapter 7. Management of Forensic Laboratory Services—Royal Canadian Mounted Police
"Turnaround times, quality management system are problems for RCMP's forensic labs"
