Search crews from the Nunavut hamlets of Hall Beach and Igloolik have been looking since Wednesday for three people, including a young boy, missing since Saturday.
Missing are:
- Laimiki Innuarak, 63.
- Rachel Aglak, 60.
- Noah Aglak, four.
The trio has not been heard from since they left Hall Beach on Saturday evening. They were en route to Igloolik, about 70 kilometres north, and were expected to arrive later that evening.
They were travelling on a burgundy-coloured Polaris snowmobile, which was hauling a qamotik, or sled, covered with a blue tarp.
Jopie Kaernerk, who chairs the Hall Beach search and rescue organization, told CBC News on Wednesday that ground searchers were following some snowmobile trails and checking out cabins.
As well, a Hercules aircraft was dispatched to join the search early Wednesday morning.
However, low clouds and blowing snow grounded the air search for the day.
