The mission of the Steacie Institute for Molecular Sciences (SIMS) is to provide leadership in collaboration with the Canadian and international scientific communities in the development of a knowledge base in molecular sciences and to ensure that it has positive impact on Canada by being pro-active in its dissemination to our partners.
The Steacie Institute is named after Dr. E.W.R. "Ned" Steacie, one of Canada's most eminent researchers in physical chemistry and President of the National Research Council from 1952 to 1962. The Steacie Prize, in memory of Ned Steacie is awarded yearly.
SIMS undertakes fundamental interdisciplinary research programs in partnership with researchers inside and outside NRC to develop innovative technologies and is based on competencies that range from cell chemistry to attosecond science to nano-materials.
The success of the institute depends on the global reach of our scientists who are constantly challenging themselves to be at the cutting edge of science, in the fields that will have the most impact world-wide. SIMS prides itself on being a training ground for graduate and undergraduate students, and postdoctoral fellows who will be the leaders of tomorrow.
