CanadaCanadian Agriculture Library (CAL) The Canadian Agriculture Library (CAL) is the single most important library in agriculture and food in Canada. Formally established in 1910 but with a history going as far back as Confederation, it was recognized in the mid-70s by the National Library of Canada and CISTI as the national resource for agriculture and food. The central library, located in Ottawa, contains 1 million volumes, including 8,000 current serials. It includes publications from Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada, provincial agricultural departments, the Canadian agriculture and food sector, Canadian authors and publishers in agriculture and food, US Department of Agriculture, Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations, and major national and international agricultural institutes throughout the world. The resources of the University of Alberta Library system comprise one of the major research collections in Canada. The system consists of numerous subject collections with a total of over 4.4 million volumes, 800,000 government documents, 33,000 serial subscriptions, 1.3 million maps, 1 million air photos, audiovisual resources, and a large collection of research materials in microform. BLDSC is part of the British Library, the national library of the United Kingdom and an international research library of world renown. It was founded in 1972 by the amalgamation of national institutions including the British Museum Library and the National Lending Library for Science and Technology. INIST is France's foremost supplier of scientific and technical information, drawing from a unique collection of the world's most important publications in science, technology, medicine, as well as the humanities, the social sciences and economics. AsiaEstablished in 1964 and centered in the heart of Tokyo, SUNMEDIA maintains its focus on the delivery of documents to and from Japan. SUNMEDIA has an extensive in-house collection of medical and pharmaceutical titles. It has the expertise and ability to access many academic and unique collections throughout Japan. SUNMEDIA can supply articles and reports from a comprehensive range of subjects, including the over 4,100 science, technology and medical journals currently published in Japan.
Established in 1956 and located in Beijing, ISTIC is a comprehensive national information centre focusing on the collection processing, building databases and dissemination of Chinese science and research. Conceived as a depository library, ISTIC has developed the world's largest collection of Chinese research journals, monographs, conference proceedings and reports. China publishes over 4,200 distinct journals in science and technology. Over the years ISTIC has provided document delivery service that specializes in business, scientific and technical subjects to its Chinese clients in the academic and industrial sector.
Korea Institute for Scientific and Technical Information (KISTI) was established in 1962 and has been acting as a national focal point of industry and technology information services in Korea. KISTI plays a significant role in establishing a nation-wide information dissemination system to support industrial and technological development in Korea by facilitating access to and utilization of information resources, developing online information system, increasing public awareness of information services, and establishing cooperative networks with information agencies at home and abroad. KISTI holds over 2,300 scientific and technical journals. KISTI implements the following activities for the purpose of enhancing industrial and technical information work in Korea.
Established in 1974, the Science and Technology Policy Research Information Center (STPI), in Taiwan, is a national organization with a mandate to support scientific and technical communities and the innovation process within their country through the provision of information services. STPI's clients include the National Science Council of Taiwan , research institutes and the private sector. STPI's collection includes about 500 Chinese language scientific and technical journals published in Taiwan, China and throughout the Southeast region. These journals cover a wide range of research disciplines including agriculture, oceanography, instrumentation, electronics, food sciences, and many others. |
