DOCLINE in Canada

User Accounts

In order to log in to DOCLINE, you need a user account. Your user account provides you with a user ID and a password which allow you to log in to the system and perform functions such as borrowing, lending, and viewing and updating your Serial Holdings records or your Institution profile.

Several people can use the same user account to log in to the system at the same time, so it is possible to share a single account among your entire staff without worrying about one user locking out the others. It is also possible to have multiple user accounts for your library. The principal reason that you might want to have multiple user accounts is that each account can be configured to have access to a different set of DOCLINE functions.

Each user account can be configured to have access to some or all of the following functions:

  • create (borrow) new ILL requests
  • receipt incoming ILL requests
  • lend or reject ILL requests
  • view ILL statistical reports for your library
  • check request status and cancel requests
  • search Institutions database
  • update your Institution profile
  • search Serial Holdings database
  • update your Serial Holdings records
  • update Serial Holdings records for a group of other libraries
  • view your Loansome Doc patron database
  • change the user account password

If your library has staff who each need to access different parts of DOCLINE, you can ask the DOCLINE coordinator to create one or more accounts with the appropriate access.

One example of a second user account that may be useful is an account which has access to search and view the Serial Holdings and Institutions databases, but which cannot be used to edit either or to create requests. Such an account may be useful to your reference staff who may want to be able to search these databases, but who have to need to make any changes.
