Passport

Passport Canada is the federal government agency responsible for passport services. Its responsibilities include issuing, revoking, withholding, recovering and providing instructions on the use of Canadian passports. Types of passports issued include regular, frequent traveller, special and diplomatic passports.

Completed paper applications may be mailed or dropped off in person at a Passport Canada office or at a growing number of Service Canada Centres serving as passport receiving agents.
Processing times vary depending on how you submit your application. Visit the Passport Canada Web site for more information.
If the normal processing time for your passport has been exceeded, you can request the status of your application.
Canadian citizens who meet certain eligibility criteria may renew their passports through the Simplified Passport Renewal Program. Refer to our frequently asked questions for more information.

Passports that have been expired for over a year and passports (valid or expired, along with a copy of the death certificate) of deceased persons can be mailed to the Passport Canada office in Gatineau, Quebec, for disposal.
As of January 23, 2007, all travellers, including Canadians and Americans, need to carry a valid passport or other appropriate secure document when travelling to the United States by air.
