E-Filing

An electronic filing service, available in English and French, allows lawyers in Canada to file documents electronically with the Federal Court via a secure, Internet-based system. At the present time, only immigration / refugee applications, maritime law, and intellectual property filing in the Federal Court can be made electronically. Other areas of the Court jurisidiction will be added in 2007 (watch this site for an announcement).

At this time, the LexisNexis® e-filing service has been recognized by the court as an approved electronic filing service provider.

The e-filing guidelines have recently been amended so that e-filers do not need to furnish paper copies of most documents (this does not apply to documents over 500 pages).

For more information, or to register, consult the service provider's web site via the above link, as well as the Federal Court's Notice to the Profession and Annex thereto.
