The Honourable Marjory LeBreton

Leader of the Government in the Senate and Secretary of State (Seniors)

Marjory LeBreton was appointed to the Senate in June 1993 under Prime Minister Mulroney. On February 6, 2006, Ms. LeBreton was appointed Leader of the Government in the Senate.

Prior to her current functions in the Senate, Ms. LeBreton served as Chief Opposition Whip and was a member of the Senate standing committees on Human Rights, on Rules, Procedures and the Rights of Parliament, on Social Affairs, Science and Technology, on Agriculture and Forestry, on Internal Economy, on Banking and on the Joint Parliamentary Committee on the Library of Parliament. She has also been a member of the Special Senate Committee on the Pearson Airport Agreements (1995) and on Security and Intelligence (1997).

Ms. LeBreton has been actively engaged in health care and mental health issues and was the Deputy Chair of the Senate Standing Committee on Social Affairs, Science and Technology from 1999 to 2004. She is also chair of the board of directors for Mothers Against Drunk Drivers - Canada and a supporter of its national campaign.

Prior to her appointment as a Senator, Ms. LeBreton served the Progressive Conservative Party of Canada in various capacities for more than 31 years, including leader's tour coordinator for the Rt. Honourable Joe Clark, office supervisor and director of correspondence for the Honourable Robert Stanfield and assistant to the Rt. Honourable John Diefenbaker.

Ms. LeBreton was born in Nepean, Ontario, in 1940. She is married to Douglas.
