The Honourable Jay D. Hill

Secretary of State and Chief Government Whip

Prince George–Peace River (British Columbia)


Jay Hill was first elected to the House of Commons in 1993 and
re-elected in 1997, 2000, 2004 and 2006. 

Mr. Hill was appointed Chief Government Whip in February 2006. Previously, he served as Official Opposition Critic on a number of files. Additionally, he has served as Official Opposition House Leader, Party Whip and Question Period Director. 

Mr. Hill is a member of the Standing Committee on Procedure and House Affairs. He has been Vice-Chair of the standing committees on National Defence and Veterans Affairs, on Transport and Government Operations, and on Agriculture and Agri-Food.

Mr. Hill was born in 1952 in Fort St. John, British Columbia, and grew up in a farming community near Taylor, British Columbia. Following high school, he worked in forestry and in the oil and gas industry before returning to agriculture in 1975.

Mr. Hill lives in Fort St. John and is the father of three children.
