FAQ About the Journal Contents Alert Service

What is the Journal Contents Alert service?
To set up a Journal Contents Alert profile, you must first subscribe to CISTI Source or to the Journal Contents Alert service. Then you access the CISTI Source Journals database and select the titles you wish to add to your profile. When the CISTI Source Articles database is updated, your profile is automatically matched against that update and all the relevant tables of contents are retrieved and prepared for delivery. The results are posted on your personal Journal Contents Alert Web page. Then we will send you an e-mail, either including the tables of contents, or simply notifying you that they have been posted: the choice is yours when you subscribe.

Updates for each title in your profile are sent separately and automatically until such time as the titles are either deactivated or cancelled.

You can view the contents of your profile at any time and you may modify it as often as you wish. You may add titles to your profile, deactivate titles that are no longer of interest or you can reactivate titles that are currently listed in your profile as deactivated.

Titles that are active are renewed automatically, once a year, on their renewal date.

How current is the Journal Contents Alert service?
Journal Content Alert profiles are updated on a weekly basis.

How many titles can I add to my Journal Contents Alert profile?
There is no maximum or minimum number of titles that you can subscribe to through CISTI Source's Journal Contents Alert service.

However, with a very large number of titles, managing your Journal Contents Alert profile via the Web may pose some difficulties if you have a PC that is slower than a Pentium and/or if you have less than 16 Megs of RAM. You could run out of memory and not be able to view your complete profile on the Web. If you find that there are too many updates for you to deal with efficiently, you may want to split your profile into several accounts. Splitting a profile does not increase your subscription costs, as you are billed per title and not per account.

How do I receive my tables of contents?
When you subscribe to the Journal Contents Alert service, your default method of delivery is Web and full e-mail delivery. Your tables of contents will be available for you to view on your personal Journal Contents Alert Web page and they will also be delivered to you by e-mail.

If you would like to change your method of delivery to receive a Web email notification instead of your results by e-mail, please contact CISTI Client Registration Services at 1-800-668-1222 or by e-mail at: crs.cisti@nrc-cnrc.gc.ca

Can I redistribute my tables of contents?
According to the Journal Contents Alert Specific Terms and Conditions, you have permission to redistribute tables of contents to persons within your organization.

What is an Article Alert Profile?

How current is the Article Alert service?

When you subscribe to the Article Alert service, your default method of delivery is Web and full e-mail delivery. Your Article Alert results will be available for you to view on your personal Article Alert Web page and they will also be delivered to you by e-mail.
