  • The Labour Policy and Workplace Information, Labour Program publishes the Workplace Bulletin on-line

    It includes such updated topics as negotiated wage data, benefits, working conditions, work stoppages, labour organizations, union membership, innovative workplace practices, labour standards, occupational safety and health, labour management partnerships, employment equity and international and intergovernmental labour affairs.

    Published twice a month, the information consists of ongoing developments and provides access to timely customized information on industrial relations and collective bargaining in Canada.
    A full version of the published information is accessible in PDF format.

  • Release of the report of the Commission for the Review of Federal Labour Standards

    Harry W. Arthurs, the Commissioner leading the Review of Federal Labour Standards, has submitted to the Minister of Labour, Jean-Pierre Blackburn, the Commission’s final report containing recommendations to modernize Canada’s labour standards.

  • Second Employment Equity Act Review to Start This Fall

    This year marks ten years since the coming into effect of the amended Act. As the legislation requires a Parliamentary review every five years, it is expected that the Standing Committee on Human Resources, Skills Development and the Status of Persons with Disabilities will initiate a second review of the current Act in the Fall of 2006. This committee will review the impact of the Act and may present recommendations to Parliament on how to improve the legislation and its administration.

    To assist in developing its report, the Labour Program is seeking the views of individual Canadians, employment equity specialists, and organizations including employers, employer groups, unions, as well as organizations representing designated groups. An issues paper, Ten Years of Experience, has been prepared to assist the discussion.

  • The new Hazard Prevention Program Regulations, forming Part XIX of the Canada Occupational Health and Safety (COHS) Regulations, came into force. The purpose of those regulations is to prevent accidents and injury to health arising out of, linked with, or occurring in the course of employment in the federal jurisdiction.

  • New Grants and Contributions Program: HRSDC's Labour Branch is now accepting applications for grants and contributions under its International Trade and Labour Program (ITLP). Proposals for labour capacity-building projects in the Americas and for social dialogue projects in Canada will be considered.
