Aboriginal Horizontal Framework

Aboriginal Affairs : Programs and Spending

Welcome to the Aboriginal Affairs: Programs and Spending website. The website is designed:

  • to provide governments and citizens with current information on the federal suite of programs targeted to First Nations people, Métis people, and the Inuit;
  • to provide a comprehensive view of government performance and spending on all federal programs directly targeted to Aboriginal people; and
  • to pilot a new approach for managing horizontal issues across the federal government.

Our approach

The Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat has worked intensively with over 30 federal departments and agencies to develop the Aboriginal Horizontal Framework?the foundation of this website. The Framework groups programs and expenditures directed specifically to Aboriginal people into seven thematic areas:

1.   Health 5.   Economic opportunities
2.   Lifelong learning 6.   Lands and resources
3.   Safe and sustainable communities 7.   Governance and relationships
4.   Housing

Clicking on the buttons to the left will provide you with access to financial and performance information on each of the more than 300 programs contained in the Framework. It will also allow you to sort programs by department or agency, funding mechanism, program delivery mechanism, and target group.

For more information on these thematic summaries, please click here to view Canada?s Performance 2005: The Government of Canada?s Contribution.
