Frequently asked questions - Authentication at the CRA
1. What information will I need to authenticate myself with the CRA to use the CRA epass services? My Account for individuals / My Business AccountYou will need to provide the following personal information to authenticate yourself with the CRA to use My Account for individuals or My Business Account:
Once you have entered your personal authentication information with the CRA, you will need to create an epass User ID and Password, and select and answer three questions. Once you have completed this portion of the process, you should receive your CRA Security Code by mail within approximately five business days (15 days if outside Canada and the U.S.). The CRA Security Code will be sent to your mailing address currently on record with the CRA. Have you moved recently? To complete the registration process, you will return to the CRA My Account for individuals or My Business Account Web site to enter your CRA Security Code and access your personal tax and benefit information. To access these services anytime in the future, you will simply need to return to the CRA's My Account for individuals or My Business Account Web site and log in using your epass User ID and Password. Represent a clientTo access the Represent a client service, representatives will need to authenticate using their Notice of Assessment access code and their postal code. Once they have completed the registration process, they will be able to access their information within Represent a client by simply logging in, using their User ID and Password. 2. Where do I find the "total income" amount I reported on line 150 of my tax return?Line 150 is the amount of total income that you calculated and entered on the income tax return you filed. The return you use must have been filed and processed. Processed means that your return has been assessed by our computer system, and your Notice of Assessment has been mailed to you. You can use either your 2005 or 2006 return. You cannot use the amount on line 150 of a return for any other year. The amount you entered on line 150 may differ from the amount found on your Notice of Assessment. You must use the amount on line 150 you calculated and entered on your income tax return. If the amount of total income that you calculated is negative, enter the value with a minus sign (e.g., enter negative 200 as "-200"). If the amount is zero, enter it as "0". When entering the amount, do not use commas, spaces, periods or cents. 3. What do you mean by current postal code or zip code?As part of your personal authentication information, you will need to enter the postal code or zip code of your current mailing address. If you live outside Canada or the U.S., the postal code or zip code is not required. When entering the postal code or zip code, do not use spaces or hyphens. 4. How do I get a CRA Security Code?Once you have completed the authentication and epass portion of the registration process for My Account for individuals or My Business Account you should receive your CRA Security Code by mail within approximately five business days (15 days if outside Canada or the U.S.). It will be sent to your mailing address currently on record with the CRA. Have you moved recently? Please note that the CRA Security Code has an expiry date that is indicated in the letter. Be sure to follow the instructions outlined in the letter before the code expires; otherwise you will have to re-register and obtain a new CRA Security Code. |
