Module 4: Complete a Basic Tax Return

Tip

Tips icon The General Income Tax and Benefit Guide is the place to look if you are not sure about what deductions or credits you can claim. If you cannot find an answer in the guide, you can call us. Please see Contacts for telephone numbers.

If you are filing a paper tax return, include one copy of each of your information slips. Make sure you also attach your Schedule 1 and your Form 428More information on Form 428 (if you are not a resident of Quebec on December 31).

Your tax return, the guide explanations, the forms, or the schedules will tell you when to attach other supporting documents, such as certificates, forms, schedules, or official receipts.

If a tax professional will be preparing or filing your tax return, show him or her all of your supporting documents, such as your information slips and receipts.

If you make a claim without the required receipt, certificate, schedule, or form, the CRA may disallow your claim. It could also delay processing your tax return.
