Module 4: Complete a Basic Tax Return

Even if you do not have to attach supporting documents to your tax return or you are filing your tax return electronically, keep any tax related documents. Generally, you should keep your supporting documents for six years.

A few months later, in late February, Paul and Omar started to discuss taxes again.

"I am going to file my tax return pretty soon," said Paul. "I got a T4 from both of the places where I worked last year. They show all of my income and deductions for the year."

"Do you know how to complete the tax return?" asked Omar.

"Well, I know some of it, but my uncle is going to help me fill it all in, and he will make sure I send all the right things with it, like the T4s. He is an accountant," answered Paul.

"Wow. That is great. Let me know what you find out," said Omar.

"I will," said Paul, "But right now, I have to get to work. I'll talk to you later."
