Module 4: Complete a Basic Tax Return

To complete a tax return, you will need several things:

  • a pad, pen, pencils, and an eraser;
  • a calculator;
  • a copy of the General Income Tax and Benefit Guide;
  • a copy of the forms booklet for the correct tax year and province or territory you lived in on December 31 of the tax year (for example, if you lived in Ontario on December 31, 2006, and are filing a tax return for 2006, you will need Forms 2006, T1 General Ontario).   • all your information slips Red Notebook Icon (such T3, T4, T4A, and T5 slips); and
  • receipts for any deductions or credits that you intend to claim. For more information, go to the CRA Web site to see What you can deduct.
