You can pay your personal income tax instalments and personal income tax arrears by pre-authorized payment. Your payment will be automatically withdrawn from your bank account only for the amount and on the day you specify. You do not have to worry about buying a stamp and mailing your payment in time for it to reach the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) by the due date.
Pre-authorized payments are a convenient, secure, and hassle-free way of paying your personal income tax instalments or arrears. You can cancel or amend your payment by contacting a CRA agent at least 30 days before the due date for your next payment.
You can pay your personal income tax instalments by pre-authorized payment by completing Form T1162-A-1, Pre-Authorized Payment Plan (Personal Quarterly Instalment Payments), which is available on our Web site at www.cra.gc.ca/forms, at your tax services office; or by contacting our General Enquires line at 1-800-959-8281.
You can set up your pre-authorized payment plan for a calculated amount or for a fixed amount.
Calculated amount pre-authorized payment plan - On your quarterly due dates, the CRA will withdraw the amount shown in box 2 of your instalment reminder sent to you in February and August. These amounts will be withdrawn as long as you receive instalment reminders or until you cancel your plan.
Fixed amount pre-authorized payment plan - On your quarterly due dates, the CRA will withdraw the amount you specified on your form. This amount will continue to be withdrawn until you contact the CRA to change the amount or cancel the plan.
