Frequently
Asked Questions - Television
How do I get transcripts or video tapes of TV shows?
For news and information programs, you need to contact Bowdens Media Monitoring, the company that handles this service for us. Have the following information available when you contact them: program name, date, segment title, duration and time. The telephone number is 1-877-BOWDENS (1-800-363-1281). Or check Bowdens online.
If you need further assistance, contact Audience Relations online or telephone at 1-866-306-4636.
Some other programs are available for home and education use. You can search catalogues of programs online through CBC’s Shops and Services.
Why do you air so many commercials?
In the past, there have been times when programs were
aired without advertisements. However, the current placement of commercials
during the majority of our programming has become necessary as a result
of the severe financial cutbacks throughout the Corporation. Nevertheless,
the CBC only allows 12 minutes of commercial time each hour, plus
promos.
Why do you "squeeze" the artistic credits at the
end of a program?
This is an initiative we have undertaken to increase
on-air awareness of our upcoming programs. We try to maximize the
promotional time we give our programs, since this increases our audiences.
Certainly, our intent is not to minimize or neglect the accolades
given to the contributors of any CBC productions.
How can I get a copy of an awards show?
As a general rule, we
do not make copies of award shows or taped live performance specials
available on home video. The costs to purchase distribution rights
are prohibitively high.
Where can
I purchase CBC merchandise?
For CBC clothing, books, CDs, tapes, jewelry and more, shop to your heart’s content online at the CBC shop.
Selected Hockey Night in Canada merchandise is online at HNIC . This website also lists 91 stores across Canada where selected HNIC items are sold.
To buy educational tapes, archival footage or still photos, visit
CBC Shops and Services.
