MUSIC

Theme albums

Museum-goers are familiar with the care that goes into the soundscapes for exhibitions presented at the Musée de la civilisation. A few soundtracks have been transferred to CD, making available works created exclusively for the museum by Québec composers including Michel Lemieux, Vincent Dionne, Jean Corriveau, Nathalie Picard, Jean-François Houle and François Dupuis.

Occasionally, the museum takes part in independent musical projects that correspond to its exhibitions themes. We invite you to discover the variety and high quality of these unique musical worlds.

Historical anthology of the music of Québec

The Québec-City-based Ensemble Nouvelle-France performs in this unique anthology covering three centuries of Québec's musical history, from Champlain's arrival in 1608 to the early 20th century. Sacred vocal and instrumental music, military music, folk music, patriotic songs, music for dancing and recreation, music for the concert hall and more intimate settings, and music of diverse ethnic origins all form an array of material that is impressive indeed. Period instruments are used, to reflect the sounds of the past.

Special editions

This category was set aside for music produced during special events in which the museum was involved to a greater or lesser degree, as it was for Les Fêtes de la Nouvelle-France, held in Québec City in the summer of 1997.
