Towards a Sustainable Environment establishes government’s commitment and approach to environmental management. It is an approach that is collaborative and that supports continuous improvement. It recognizes the importance of a healthy environment to sustain human health and a strong economy.

The document was developed by several departments and agencies. These departments also share responsibility for consultation and implementation of the plan.
