Subject: Tax credit for Canadians with weekly public transit passes

I thought you might be interested in Canada's Tax Credit for Public Transit Passes. If you regularly take the bus, subway, commuter rail or ferry, you can get a tax break equal to 15.5% of the cost of a monthly transit pass just by saving your expired passes!

Also, you can claim the federal tax credit for your spouse, common-law partner and your children under the age of 19 who have a weekly or longer duration transit pass.

One city bus filled with passengers can take 40 vehicles off the road during rush hour and keep about 50 tonnes of greenhouse gas emissions out of the atmosphere each year. By taking mass transit, not only are you saving money (and can save more with the new tax credit), but you are making a difference in air quality.

Visit the Canada Revenue Agency website for additional information about how to qualify and claim the tax credit for your transit pass.
