Bramwell Tovey and the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra celebrate the 200th anniversaries of two great romantic composers – Felix Mendelssohn (1809-1847) and Robert Schumann (1810-1856) –with a series of three concerts.
The first half of the concert features Mendelssohn's Hebrides Overture and the Fourth Symphony (Italian). Then Chinese superstar Lang Lang joins the orchestra for Beethoven's Second Piano Concerto after the intermission.
In a related podcast series maestro Tovey talks with CBC Radio 2 In Concert host Bill Richardson about the life and music of Mendelssohn and Schumann and what makes their music endure.
