Scott Preece was stabbed to death early Saturday morning. Friends and family of Scott Preece gathered on Monday night in Edmonton at the spot where he was killed.
They were there to remember and mourn him, and to try to prod anyone who knows something about his stabbing death early Saturday to step forward.
"Everyone in this area will know what happened, and hopefully someone saw something and we can get someone to come forward," said Darcy Preece, Scott's cousin, who has been speaking for the family.
Scott Preece, 28, was killed after exchanging words with a man after he and a friend left a Mac's store at the corner of 172nd Street and 69th Avenue.
The man followed them across the parking lot and stabbed Preece, killing him, before running away, the friend has told the family.
On Monday, police released images of two men who were potential witnesses and asked the men to come forward. Police have now interviewed both individuals and are continuing to follow up.
Many of the people at the memorial were Preece's co-workers, said Brad Martin, who worked with him at a concrete company.
Darcy Preece says family and friends are trying to make sure his cousin Scott's killer has no place to hide. (CBC)"It was a big loss for us, and so we decided to come out tonight and show a little bit of support for the family, and to get a little bit of attention [so] that maybe the killer will step forward," Martin said.
Darcy Preece said the show of support near a memorial of flowers, candles and notes means a lot to the family.
"It's not something that you ever think's gonna happen in your family," he said. "You don't think someone's gonna be murdered in your family."
The family will continue to put up posters and visit the spot where Scott Preece was killed, Darcy Preece said, and he had a message for the man who killed his cousin.
"You can't run forever and you will get caught," he said. "We will find you. The police will find you and it'll just be easier if you turn yourself in.
"I mean, how can you sleep at night, knowing that you did this to our family, to … to us."
