Toronto will still get the services of tennis player Andy Roddick, but the American heads into the Rogers Cup tournament with a lower ranking.

Roddick, the 2003 U.S. Open champion, lost a third-round matchup to France's Gilles Simon last week at the Legg Mason Tennis Classic in Washington.

The defeat dropped Roddick from No. 9 to 11 in the ATP rankings released on Monday.

It's the first time no American player has been seeded in the top 10 since the men's tennis computer rankings began in 1973.

Coincidently, Roddick's U.S. Open win is the last time an American man has won a Grand Slam title, a time that spans 27 straight major tournaments.

The Rogers Cup, which begins Monday at the Rexall Centre on the York University grounds, has a deep field, with eight of the top 10 ranked players competing at the $2.43-million event.

Despite the fall out of the top 10, Roddick gets a bye into the second round.
