"Eleanor Wachtel is one of the very finest interviewers of authors I’ve come across anywhere in the world." - Kazuo Ishiguro

Now in its twentieth season, Writers & Company offers an opportunity to explore in depth the lives, thoughts and works of remarkable writers from around the world.

"Eleanor Wachtel is a tremendous interviewer: for the spaces she leaves; for the vast knowledge she has; for being approachable and easygoing, but at the same time always being ready and able to dive off into questions - of living and of writing and of Books Themselves - and helping her interviewees be comfortable and engaged enough to dive right along with her," writes one Writers & Company listener. "There's certainly no show like it."

Another wrote to say, "To listen to Eleanor Wachtel on Sunday for me is the highlight of the week - a real treat for the mind."

A recent caller said: "Your show is absolutely thrilling. And the irony behind it is that you've got one of the smoothest journalists to carry it all for you. It's really some dichotomy - such a beautifully calm show, but it's so thrilling. Congratulations."

Writer/broadcaster Eleanor Wachtel has hosted Writers & Company from its inception. She brings her thoughtfulness and wit to conversations with such distinguished writers as Joan Didion, Zadie Smith, Derek Walcott, John Updike and Alice Munro. Eleanor draws out not only the intellectual but also the personal lives of her guests.

Also, through special series that feature writers from South Africa, New Zealand, India, Argentina, Central Europe and the world of Islam, Writers & Company takes its listeners to different countries and cultures.

Order of Canada
On February 8, 2005, Her Excellency the Right Honourable Adrienne Clarkson, Governor General of Canada, announced appointments to the Order of Canada, and CBC Radio’s Eleanor Wachtel was named amongst the deserving and impressive list of recipients.
