Once a week, CBCSports.ca breaks down the balance of power in the Canadian Football League.

1. SASKATCHEWAN ROUGHRIDERS [unchanged]
Overall record: 2-0 Streak: Two wins Did you get the feeling Darian Durant and the Rider offence were just playing around with the B.C. Lions until it was time to put them away? Defence tightened up nicely, but still giving up too much in the air. Impressive start. |

2. CALGARY STAMPEDERS [up from 4]
Overall record: 2-0 Streak: Two wins Beating Toronto and Hamilton to start the year is OK. They have a budding star in kicker Rob Maver. The offence is fine, but the defence allows too many yards in the air. On the other hand, it's tough to run against these guys right now so passing is the only real option. |

3. MONTREAL ALOUETTES [down from 2]
Overall record: 1-1 Streak: One win Nice to have the win and all, but there are still some disturbing things about this defence. Gave up 340 yards passing and 103 rushing to the Eskimos and might well have lost if Edmonton hadn't self destructed. Offence was kept in check much of the night. |

4. WINNIPEG BLUE BOMBERS [up from 5]
Overall record: 1-1 Streak: One loss Down to earth a touch came the Bombers, but you've got to love the offence. Back to QB Buck Pierce's health we go. He's running too much (103 yards) and the Argos almost got him this time. Stop the high-wire act, coaches. Give the man a safety net. He threw for 366 yards for gosh sakes. |

5. B.C. LIONS [down from 3]
Overall record: 1-1 Streak: One loss Wally's boys didn't play well in their outdoor debut but that was the Riders they were up against. So, we'll give them a week. But in comes Montreal and now it's time to show what they can do. Casey Printers injured a quad muscle and left the game. This can't possibly herald a repeat of last year's pivot injury nightmare, can it? |

6. TORONTO ARGONAUTS [up from 8]
Overall record: 1-1 Streak: One win Strange. The no-account offence piled up over 300 yards against the Bombers, while the highly touted defence allowed over 500 yards. Returner Chad Owens is a heck of a find. |

7. HAMILTON TIGER-CATS [unchanged]
Overall record: 0-2 Streak: Two losses This team should be 1-1 and it's on big-time free agent signing Sandro DeAngelis, who missed two of four field goal attempts and had one blocked in a one-point loss to the strong Stampeders. Defence is fine. Must find a way to run the ball as they did last year. |

8. EDMONTON ESKIMOS [down from 6]
Overall record: 0-2 Streak: Two losses These guys are killing themselves. Week 1 it was turnovers and sacks. Week 2 it was turnovers, and two bad dropped balls for scores by Fred Stamps and Kelly Campbell, either of which might have put the Alouettes away. Waste of an excellent defensive effort. |
