Let's Talk Energy – Engaging Ideas for Canada's Future

The Canada Science and Technology Museums Corporation (CSTMC), in partnership with a number of organizations across the country, invites all Canadians to explore the relationship between energy, the Canadian economy and the environment.

This multi-year initiative will reach Canadians across the country through a range of activities including exhibitions, distance learning programs, school programs and kits, virtual exhibitions, social media programming, and lectures and workshops.

Switch film screenings

Winner of many prestigious awards and an official selection at countless prominent festivals, Dr. Scott Tinker's engaging and thought-provoking film, Switch, is coming to Canada! Let's Talk Energy, in partnership with museums, science centres, universities, colleges and local groups will be presenting screenings of Switch across the country. Most screenings will be followed by a discussion exploring Canada's energy future. Join the conversation on-line, too -- share your thoughts on the film, on energy-related challenges and opportunities, and on the conversations across Canada!

Science Twinning Project: Youth-Inspired Engagement on Global Sustainability
(SCEnaRios 2012)

SCEnaRios is a project in which students aged 15-18 working with various science centres and museums around the world collaborate to focus on a global issue and develop solutions through research and discussion. The Canadian team is coordinated by the Canada Science and Technology Museums Corporation and has been paired with youth from the United States and Denmark on the topic of sustainable energy.

A final video presenting their vision for the future of global energy and highlights from their field-trips will be seen as part of the June 19th at 1pm web discussion at the Rio Summit.


Coursera Energy 101 free online course

Whether you're a curious student, armchair scientist, industry expert or internet junky, there's always something to learn about energy. As a leader in online learning, Coursera has partnered with the Georgia Institute of Technology to offer Energy 101—a free, online course designed to inform and educate broadly on the topic of energy. As a college level course, Energy 101 offers a comprehensible look at a complex and multi-facetted subject. Over the course of 9 weeks Dr. Sam Shelton will provide insight into the social, physical, economic and technological forces driving energy production, distribution, and consumption.
