2013 - The Year of the Korean War Veteran

Veterans Affairs Canada is honoured to mark 2013 as the Year of the Korean War Veteran. This year marks the 60th anniversary of the Korean War Armistice, as well as the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Canada and South Korea.

Certificate of Recognition

A new certificate of recognition has been created to honour Veterans of the Korean War on behalf of a grateful nation.

Ceremonies and Events

Commemorative ceremonies and events will take place across the country to recognize the achievements of all those who served in the Korean War and honour those who made the ultimate sacrifice.

History

On June 25, 1950, the freedom of the South Korean people was threatened by a full-force invasion by North Korea. More than 26,000 Canadians joined the United Nations mission in Korea-working to restore peace and stability to the area.

Remembrance

By remembering Veterans' service and sacrifice, we recognize the tradition of freedom they fought to preserve.

For youth, educators and the young at heart; lots of cool interaction with tips on researching school projects. These learning materials reflect the history and personal experiences of Canadian Veterans who fought in this battle.  Learn more
