People across the GTA will get a break from the wet stuff Friday afternoon, with sun and winds taking precedence for the rest of the day.
Environment Canada predicts partly cloudy skies throughout the afternoon, with winds gusting between 40 and 80 km/h, with a 30 per cent chance of flurries. This after large amounts of rain — estimated between 20 and 30 mm —fell across the region since Thursday night. A rainfall warning issued on Thursday was cancelled Friday morning as the rain slowed. However, a special weather statement is in effect for Toronto, Hamilton, Peel Region, Halton Region and Hamilton due to the strong winds.
Temperatures will top out a 4C for the day, with more sun and winds set for Saturday with a low of -4C Friday night.
Despite the clearer conditions, operations at Pearson appear to be affected by the earlier weather, with around 116 cancellations reported as of Friday afternoon. Cancellations ranged from flights heading in and out of New York, Philadelphia, Chicago, Ottawa and Montreal. Less than 10 cancellations were reported by Billy Bishop Airport.
GO Transit as been experiencing delays on the Lakeshore East and Lakeshore West lines throughout the day, caused mostly by malfunctioning signals as a result of the heavy rain.
There are only minor delays on the TTC line. However, there will be no subway service this weekend between Union and St. Andrew stations due to maintenance work.
