City Hall update: Bureau chief was caught on camera while media scrummed Mayor John Tory. His mother just called. "My mom calls me when she sees me on TV. She is very sweet. I am very lucky." - DR (Tries to stay out of frames but loud drumming meant coming in close)

These rental stories are about more than making ends meet, they are about who gets to live in and contribute to our city and who is shut out. Our has been highlighting what we stand to lose.

Also included: Which demographic groups most impacted by rising housing costs. Spoiler: If you are not single, with a six-figure salary, you might pay too much in rent. Indigenous families, immigrants, seniors, young people, single mothers - all stretched, overcrowded and stuck.

The information came through Statistics Canada and was gathered from the 2016 census. Not shocking, but it really should be, Ontario leads the country when it comes to the number of us paying more than half our income on rent.

The Canadian Rental Housing Index has a new feature, breaking down how much we pay in rent based on federal election districts. (Note: Currently they are also the provincial - and most recently Toronto's municipal ridings - but things change fast around here)

Just something to think about when you walk through Toronto. There is also an online memorial and friends and loved ones are invited to submit photos and details about the people lost. You can find it here.

It is also a pretty interesting scene in terms of the regulars who attend. This bearded fellow is Mike Mallard, and he is known for handing out marbles. The idea, as he explains, is to pick one to remember somebody you love and you carry it with you. I have a bunch.

Community members meet at the Church of the Holy Trinity on the second Tuesday of each month, to read out the names of men and women who have died as a result of violence, neglect, poverty, addiction, and related health issues. Many John and Jane Does.

Toronto’s Homeless Memorial has a new look, thanks to a couple hundred marbles. (I didn’t count) Another new feature. Those wanting to look for names of loved ones can now move the pages - as the list of the dead has long outgrown the space.

Mere seconds after this ambulance was flipped onto its side this aft, I saw the two paramedics inside climb out, rushing to aid the other driver involved in the crash. The picture says it all.
