News Corrections for Sept. 15

  • Toban Leckie is the candidate for the Strength in Democracy party in the federal riding of Peterborough-Kawartha. A Sept. 14 article about five key Ontario ridings mistakenly said he is running for the Green Party. In fact, the Green Party candidate is Doug Mason.
  • Robin Cuff is the director of the Toronto Drug Treatment Court (TDTC). A Sept. 14 column about funding cuts to the drug treatment program misspelled her surname.
  • Robert Butler is a physical therapist at Duke University who oversaw Toronto Blue Jays' Marcus Stroman's rehabilitation. A Sept. 12 article about the pitcher's return mistakenly referred to Butler as an orthopedic surgeon.
  • Canadian swimmer Colleen Shields successfully swam across Lake Ontario on Aug. 12, 2014 at the age of 62 to become the oldest person to swim across the lake. A Sept. 8 article about people who find fulfilment in taking tasks to the extreme mistakenly said Shields gave up trying to swim across the lake after a last unsuccessful attempt in 2012. As well, the article mistakenly said that in 1954 American swimmer Florence Chadwick refused the Canadian National Exhibition's offer of $10,000 to attempt to be the first person to swim across Lake Ontario prompting Canadian swimmer Marilyn Bell to step up to the challenge. In fact, Bell decided to attempt the swim even without an offer of a reward. As well, Chadwick attempted the swim but sickness forced her out of the race after several hours.
