Torstar Syndication Services (TSS) provides value-added services to publishers, companies, governments and consumers by collecting, packaging and distributing content. Activities also include managing content rights, and marketing and licensing content.

 

 

 

 

 

 

Content (text or graphics) is acquired both internally and externally. Internal sources include Torstar properties such as Toronto Star, The Hamilton Spectator, the Record, and Metroland. External sources include other syndicates and publications as well as freelance creators. The content is packaged, distributed and re-sold or licensed to clients. Our client base includes other publishers, researchers and research services, large corporations, government agencies, film and television, clipping services, public and business libraries, Torstar publications, and the general public.

Syndicate Sales
The largest syndicate in Canada, in operation for over 90 years, the Torstar Syndication Services (formerly Toronto Star Syndicate) provides excellent editorial content to newspapers and other media. Whether it's material produced by Torstar writers and columnists, comics and features from King Features Syndicate NYC - a division of Hearst Corporation, or content submitted by Canadian creators on a freelance basis, TSS is proud to provide editors with quality syndicated material on which they can rely.

Licensing
Torstar Syndication Services provides on-line research databases and media monitoring companies with licenses to provide access to Torstar content. Vendors currently providing online access to Torstar content include FPInfomart, ProQuest, Factiva, Lexis Nexis, Thomson Dialog, NewsBank and EBSCO.

On-line Archives
TSS has two archive products: digitized page image archives, and text archives. Toronto Star Page Archives (TSA) is a fully searchable, web-based archive product that includes every page, including photos, ads and classified, of every issue of The Toronto Star, back to from 1894-2013. Pages of the Past is also available by subscription to corporate, government, institutional and library markets, via ProQuest Historical News Platfomr, and is available to consumers through a 1-week, 1-month, 3-month, or 1-year subscription.
