    Prime Minister Stephen Harper today announced the appointment of Rahim Jaffer, Member of Parliament for Edmonton–Strathcona, as National Caucus Chair. “I am very pleased to name Rahim Jaffer as National Caucus Chair.  He will be an enthusiastic and able member of our team,” said Harper.  “The position of caucus chair is an important one and I am satisfied that I have made a good choice.”

  • Prime Minister announces changes in the senior ranks of the Public Service
    Prime Minister Stephen Harper was pleased to announce today the following changes in the senior ranks of the Public Service. The changes reflect the smaller, more streamlined Cabinet structure of the new government: Nicole Jauvin, currently Deputy Minister of Social Development, becomes Associate Clerk of the Privy Council for Senior Personnel. Alan Nymark, currently Deputy Minister of Human Resources and Skills Development, becomes Deputy Minister of Human Resources and Social Development.

  • Prime Minister announces the date for the opening of Parliament
    The Prime Minister today announced that Parliament will return on Monday, April 3, 2006. The Governor General, on the Prime Minister’s recommendation, has summoned Parliament to meet on April 3, 2006. The election of the Speaker of the House of Commons will take place on that day, and the Speech from the Throne to begin the 1st Session of the 39th Parliament will be read by the Governor General in the Senate in the afternoon of April 4, 2006.
