Chris Alexander was elected to the House of Commons in May 2011.

In July 2013, Mr. Alexander was appointed Minister of Citizenship and Immigration. Previously, he was appointed Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of National Defence in May 2011.

Prior to entering federal politics, Mr. Alexander served Canada as a diplomat. His first posting was at the Canadian Embassy in Russia, and in 2003, he became Canada's first resident Ambassador in Kabul, Afghanistan. Between 2005 and 2009, he served as a Deputy Special Representative of the United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan.

He earned a bachelor of arts degree from McGill University and an M.A. in Political Science, Philosophy and Economics from Balliol College, Oxford.

He lives with his wife Hedvig and their two daughters in Ajax, Ontario.
