Here the community can nominate articles to be selected as "Today's featured article" (TFA) on the main page. The TFA section aims to highlight the range of articles that have "featured article" status, from Art and architecture through to Warfare, and wherever possible it tries to avoid similar topics appearing too close together without good reason. Requests are not the only factor in scheduling the TFA (see Choosing Today's Featured Article); the final decision rests with the TFA coordinators (Brianboulton, Crisco 1492 and Dank) (who also select TFAs for dates where no suggestions are put forward). Please confine requests to this page, and remember that community endorsement on this page does not necessarily mean the article will appear on the requested date.

The rules for nominations are relatively simple:

  • The article must be a featured article.
  • The article must not have appeared as TFA before (see the list of possibilities here)
  • The request must be either for a specific date within the next 30 days that have not yet been scheduled (10 spaces), or a non-specific date (4 spaces). If a section is full, you can wait for a vacancy, or ask the coordinators for advice. The template {{@TFA}} can be used in a message to "ping" the coordinators through the notification system.

If you have an exceptional request that deviates from these instructions (for example, an article making a second appearance as TFA, or a "double-header"), please discuss the matter with the TFA coordinators in the first instance.

It can be helpful to add the article to the pending requests template up to 1 year before the requested date. This does not guarantee selection, but does help others see what nominations may be forthcoming. Requestors should still nominate the article here during the 30-day timeframe.

How to post a new nomination:

I.
Create the nomination subpage.

In the box below, enter the full name of the article you are nominating (replacing ARTICLE TITLE, and without using any brackets around the article's name) and click the button to create your nomination page.
II.
Write the nomination.

On that nomination page, fill out as many of the relevant parts of the pre-loaded {{TFAR nom}} template as you can, then save the page.

Your nomination should mention:

  • when the last similar article was, since this helps towards diversity on the main page (browsing Wikipedia:Today's featured article/recent TFAs will help you find out);
  • when the article was promoted to FA status (since older articles may need extra checks);
  • and (for date-specific nominations) the article's relevance for the requested date.

Please do your best to write a summary of the lead section, using the same formatting as the ones used on the main page; see today's example. Specifically: one paragraph only; no reference tags, alternative names, or extraneous bolding; trim birth/death dates to year only; link to the article title in bold and as the first wikilink in the summary; total length of summary when previewed (including spaces) between 950 and 1150 (or at most 1200) characters. Add a suitable free-use image if available; fair use images are not allowed.

If you don't feel happy writing a summary, follow the rest of the instructions, then ask for assistance at WT:TFAR and someone will help.
III.
Post at TFAR.

After you have created the nomination page, add it here under a level-3 heading for the preferred date (or under a free non-specific date header). To do this, add (replacing "ARTICLE TITLE" with the name of your nominated article):

Nominations are ordered by requested date below the summary chart. More than one article can be nominated for the same date.

It would also then be helpful to add the nomination to the summary chart, following the examples there. Please include the name of the article that you are nominating in your edit summary.

If you are not one of the article's primary editors, please then notify the primary editors of the TFA nomination; if primary editors are no longer active, please add a message to the article talk page.

Scheduling:

In the absence of exceptional circumstances, TFAs are scheduled in date order, not according to how long nominations have been open or how many supportive comments they have. So, for example, January 31 will not be scheduled until January 30 has been scheduled (by TFAR nomination or otherwise).

Kent is a city in the U.S. state of Ohio and the largest city in Portage County. It is located along the Cuyahoga River in Northeast Ohio on the western edge of the county. The town is counted as part of the Akron Metropolitan Statistical Area and the larger Cleveland–Akron–Canton Combined Statistical Area. The population was 28,904 in the 2010 Census and 29,639 in the 2014 estimate. Part of the Connecticut Western Reserve, Kent was settled in 1805 and was known for many years as Franklin Mills, due to its water-powered mills along the Cuyahoga River. In the 1830s and 1840s, the village was on the route of the Pennsylvania and Ohio Canal. Franklin Mills was noted for its activity in the Underground Railroad, leading up to the American Civil War. Marvin Kent made the village the home of the Atlantic and Great Western Railroad maintenance shops. In 1864 the village was renamed Kent in honor of him. Today Kent is a college town best known as the home of the main campus of Kent State University (building pictured), founded in 1910, and as the site of the 1970 Kent State shootings. Infinity Blade[edit]

Infinity Blade is a fighting game developed by Chair Entertainment and Epic Games and released through the App Store on December 9, 2010. It is the first iOS video game to run on the Unreal Engine. In the game, the unnamed player character fights a series of one-on-one battles in a derelict castle to face the immortal God King. When in battle, players swipe the screen to attack and parry, and tap the screen to dodge and block enemy attacks. Upon victory or defeat, the player restarts the game as the character's descendant with the same items and experience level. Developed by a team of twelve people, the game was intended to demonstrate the new iOS version of the Unreal Engine. The game received four free expansions that added new equipment, endings, and game modes. The game was the fastest-grossing app in the history of iOS upon its release. It made US$1.6 million in its first four days, and over US$23 million by the end of 2011. Reviews heavily praised the graphics and compared the mobile game favorably to console games. Steve Bruce

Steve Bruce (born 1960) is an English football manager and former player, who is currently the manager of Hull City. A defender, he began his professional career at Gillingham in 1979, and made over 200 appearances before transferring to Norwich City five years later. From 1987 to 1996, he played for Manchester United, where he won several domestic and European trophies and was their captain as they won The Double. He began his managerial career at Sheffield United, and in 2001 joined Birmingham City, whom he led to two promotions to the Premier League.
