The discussion about merging at the village pump is now archived (here). The vast majority of those who expressed an opinion considered the system based on the current templates and this process (Wikipedia:Proposed mergers) to be inadequate.

The implementation of a new automated system is being discussed at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Merge/Archive 2#Automation of merge proposals. More participation in that discussion is welcome.

This page lists proposed article mergers as a supplement to the merge categories and templates; it is meant for discussing possible mergers and does not replace any of the other steps in the merger process. Please add the appropriate merger tag(s) to the articles before listing them here.

How to propose a merger[edit]

Main page: Help:Merging

There are three types of mergers on Wikipedia:

  1. mergers that are so obviously necessary and appropriate that no one is expected to object;
  2. mergers that would benefit from discussion with the other editors at the affected articles about whether and/or how to perform the merge; and
  3. mergers that are controversial or potentially difficult to carry out, and therefore need assistance from uninvolved editors in determining whether to merge the pages.

If the pages that you would like to merge fall into the first group, then it is not necessary to propose a merger at all. You should boldly do the merger now, without formally proposing it. (In the event that someone unexpectedly objects, then the merger can be undone easily, and you can formally propose the merger for discussion at that time.)

If a formal discussion is wanted, then proposing a merger can be done in three steps:

  1. Create a place for discussion. Go to the Talk Page (also known as the discussion page) of the TARGET ARTICLE (the one you want to merge to) and create a section (eg: "Merger proposal") to discuss the merger. If there's already a discussion on the talk page regarding the merger, you can omit this step. Whether the discussion is new or old, make sure the discussion section names all articles involved and links to them. The section name can be anything that includes the word merge (for example ==Merger proposal==).
  2. Put one of the merger tags at the top of the articles you wish to be merged. The templates {{Merge from}} and {{Merge to}}, or {{merge}} are the most common ones. Remember to make sure that the Discuss link in each tag points to the section you've created in step 1 (this is to prevent having two separate discussions on different talk pages).
  3. If the proposed merge is controversial or potentially difficult to carry out, follow the directions under #Requests for merge assistance and feedback to add it to the list.

Many bold mergers are performed each day. Of the mergers that are formally proposed, about 95% fall into the second category, of wanting discussion or practical assistance from the editors at the articles that are to be merged. The remaining 5% of formally proposed mergers are on contentious topics or are controversial for one reason or another. Only this small fraction is listed at the bottom of this page as instructed in step #3.

Requests for merge assistance and feedback[edit]

If you need outside feedback regarding mergers that are either tricky or of a controversial nature, please do the following:

  • Tag the article as shown above
  • Create a discussion as shown above
  • Notify the talk page of the appropriate Wikiproject to get knowledgeable people to comment on it. (To find out which Wikiproject the page is associated with, check the associated talk page. It should be tagged with a template, such as Wikipedia:WikiProject Ice Hockey.)
  • If there is consensus to merge, but the merge is difficult, contact Wikipedia:WikiProject Merge for assistance.

For other topics:

  • If you need help with renaming or moving, consult Help:Moving a page.
  • Cut-and-paste move fixes: If you have merged an article by this method, then you need to request page histories to be merged; list them at requests for history merge. Please DO NOT perform further moves by cut and paste.

NOTE: Do not Post Here if You are Not Willing to do the Merge Yourself. We will provide you assistance in how to complete the merge if you are unsure how to do it. -Project Merge
NOTE: Please do not re-list old merge proposals that are already tagged and in the "to Merge" queue (including requests made up to two years ago), as these will be handled as we get to them. -Project Merge

New requests[edit]

If you need assistance with proposing a merge, list it below and someone will make sure it's properly listed. Note that this will not get the merge completed, as there is a large merge backlog. Once a merge is listed properly, move it to the "Completed requests" or "Awaiting consensus" sections below as appropriate.

Please list new requests at the bottom of this section. Use the Edit Summary and list at least a link to the article to be redirected. Please legitimize your request by signing each listing or comment by typing four tildes (~~~~):

Comment Both appear to have been merged into St. Teresa's High School, Charni Road – someone may want to check that the merger has been completed properly. Richard3120 (talk) 01:25, 13 October 2015 (UTC)
Support but I'm not sure whether the resulting single article should be under Tran (her maiden name), Swenson (her married name), or Tran-Swenson (as some sources seem to call her). Richard3120 (talk) 00:21, 13 October 2015 (UTC)
Oppose. Look again, better yet, withdraw this nomination due to possible error in judgement. Thanks, Poeticbent talk 07:19, 25 February 2015 (UTC)
Support. Strongly disagree with Poeticbent and thank you not to include POV in talk. Subcamps are not historically notable for their names, because they were not given names. See [[1]]. Very simple to observe that subcamps were redirected to the geographical areas where they were located, because the subcamps did not have proper names. Treatment of Malchow concentration camp nonstandard and nonperformant. Stan94301 (talk) 16:09, 25 February 2015 (UTC)
I've added merger tags to the articles – I support this merge as the only real sources appear to be throwaway two-line reviews on AllMusic for each album. Richard3120 (talk) 19:47, 12 October 2015 (UTC)
Thank you so much. Beyoncetan (talk) 11:34, 16 October 2015 (UTC)

Awaiting consensus[edit]

Once tagged, request should be added here. This section can also be used if an old proposal needs further discussion. We will attempt to get more people to comment on it.

  • Merge Investigative Project on Terrorism into Steven Emerson. There is no such entity as the Investigative Project on Terrorism, and much of the information included in the current article belongs in an article under the actual organization which is The Investigative Project on Terrorism Foundation founded in April 2006. There is also a separate entity, The Investigative Project, and the Steven Emerson article where some of the information belongs. Everything is being lump summed under an invalid article. AtsmeConsult 17:46, 30 June 2014 (UTC)
*Note: Discussion belongs on the article page which survives the merger (the "target page"), not the one which will become a redirect. GenQuest "Talk to Me" 23:59, 21 September 2014 (UTC)
  • Merge Fantasy literature into Fantasy; Fantasy literature is a pretty small article, and its scope could easily be incorporated into Fantasy with a little expansion work. Both articles tagged and discussion started here. Pariah24 (talk) 08:08, 4 October 2014 (UTC)
  • Merge MG Cars and MG Motor; There are two articles about the motoring brand MG - MG Cars and MG Motor. This causes confusion about a brand that is not defunct as the article MG Cars states. It is proposed that one article should be created named 'MG' with details about the brand - past and present. If there is too much information for one article, then 'The History Of MG' would be a suitable secondary article. The merger has so far not come up with a natural conclusion. See details here. Aldoturner (talk) 12:55, 9 October 2014 (UTC)
  • Merge Kollam Airport into Asramam Maidan; The two articles overlap in that they describe the same open space which once used to be a landing ground in the 1930s (not an airport, as claimed). I propose that the "airport article be merged into the history section of Asramam Maidan article in order to provide more accurate coverage of the topic. --Trinidade (talk) 16:11, 12 October 2014 (UTC)
  • Merge Recommendation letter into Employment reference letter. Both are frequently used interchangeably, and sources I've found are mixed, but slightly more say that a recommendation letter is a type of reference letter (a more specific version of a reference letter). Hustlecat do it! 04:43, 26 November 2014 (UTC)
  • Merge Trayvon Martin could have been me 35 years ago into Florida v. Zimmerman. I do not believe the sparse content here merits its own stand-alone article. All the info here can easily be merged with the Florida v. Zimmerman article without any losses. I am adding the merge proposal to this list because it needs attention from a broader audience than it has gotten. -- Veggies (talk) 20:04, 7 March 2015 (UTC)
This has been discussed at [4]. Nakon 06:05, 8 March 2015 (UTC)
  • Merge Sam Hunter (TV series) into Hunted (TV series). Former article is about a proposed spin-off series that was never produced and is officially cancelled, rendering the article moot but the content should still be rolled into the latter article. 68.146.52.234 (talk) 14:49, 30 August 2015 (UTC)
  • Merge Merton College, London into South Thames College. Merton College was merged with South Thames College in 2009 and no longer exists as a discrete entity. The continued existence of the Merton College page is potentially confusing and/or misleading, and since the current page is a stub, it can easily be flowed into the history section on the South Thames College page.Leahholmesstc (talk) 11:48, 22 September 2015 (UTC)
  • Merge USA for Africa into "We Are the World". While the latter article is FA status, the USA for Africa article is entirely unsourced and apart from the lead consists of just two sections, an (incomplete) list of performers on "We Are the World", and the tracks on the accompanying We Are the World album. Both the "We Are the World" article and the We Are the World album article cover these two sections in far more detail, so there is no need for the separate USA for Africa article. Having just one article for "We Are the World"/USA for Africa would make it much easier to maintain. Richard3120 (talk) 02:49, 27 September 2015 (UTC)
  • Merge Why I Never Became a Dancer into Tracey Emin#Films. The film does not appear to meet notability on its own, and her other film work is adequately described in the section on her page. A few sentences about the film makes more sense than a separate article.JamesG5 (talk) 01:29, 18 November 2015 (UTC)
  • Merge List of military occupations into List of territorial disputes. The lists are fundamentally the same, but the first is essentially a platform for editors with strong points of view about particular conflicts to cast one or another side of a conflict in a negative light. See the talk page for typical discussions among partisan editors. The merge is likely to be contested by these partisan editors, as "List of territorial disputes" is a much more neutral (and more accurate) description of the conflicts listed. --Ravpapa (talk) 17:10, 22 November 2015 (UTC)

  • Merge Salawat (now redirected to Peace be upon him (Islam)) and Durood. Reason given: The articles seems to indicate that Salawat is Arabic of Durood. Also, sending Peace, Salutations, Blessings , etc on the Muhammad all usually refer to similar things, with some slight but significant difference in the meaning of the words. The difference comes in usage of different phrases. E.g.- one kind of phrase used after mentioning his name and another kind of phrase used in Salah. Rather a sub-topic should be used to mention the difference (Note: Naat is not used for this merger, which removed previous merge request) Verycuriousboy (talk) 12:22, 23 May 2014 (UTC)
