History[edit]
Yellowhead Tribal Council (YTC) was first established in 1977 in order to provide economic, social, and educational support services to First Nation member bands and educational opportunities that could not be successfully accessed in mainstream institutions. The University and College Entrance Preparation Program (UCEPP), YTC's first permanent education program, was established in the spring of 1983. Since the 1980s, YTC Education has evolved from a small upgrading program into Yellowhead Tribal College, a centre offering accredited post-secondary courses, certificates, diplomas and degrees via partnerships with recognized colleges and universities, in particular the University of Alberta, Grant MacEwan University, NAIT, NorQuest College and Keyano College
Yellowhead Tribal College is a member of the First Nation & Adult Higher Education Consortium, a non-profit organization in Western Canada, which coordinates the efforts of its members to provide quality adult and higher education, controlled entirely by people of the First Nations.[1]
