04:26:40, 18 November 2015 review of submission by Amrita Sulabh Barnwal[edit]

04:26:40, 18 November 2015 review of submission by Amrita Sulabh Barnwal Why my article was rejected

Hi Amrita Sulabh Barnwal - The article was rejected because the references provided do not meet the notability requirements of Wikipedia. This was real easy to see in this case, since you provided zero references. To show notability, you'll need 2-3 in-depth articles about the company from independent, reliable sources. Usually that means magazines, books or newspapers. In addition to that, your article is highly promotional in tone, so it will need to be re-written, so as to get rid of it looking like a sales brochure for the company. Finally, in addition to the citations showing notability, you'll need other references as well, for example, to show that they actually won the awards stated in the article. You can find out how to properly use citations at WP:CITE, and how to properly format those citations at WP:CIT. Hope this helps. Onel5969 TT me 20:18, 18 November 2015 (UTC)

This is the page I'm setting up, I can't tell if you can see the draft or not. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Draft:The_Alliance_for_Independent_Authors_(ALLI)

It got rejected. The organization has a media page with a lot of links, http://allianceindependentauthors.org/alli-in-the-news/

Seems plenty more notable than other pages, but was rejected anyway. Would love help!

Hi there. I think the subject probably could be established as notable, but you need much better sourcing. Virtually all your citations are to press releases (or press release based material) or to the self-published websites of the Alliance's various members. I'd suggest having a look for material in Google Books. There is some available there. And use press articles from mainstream newspapers rather than trade publications, but look for ones which devote at least a paragraph specifically to this organization rather than a passing mention in the context of a brief quote from its founder on the general subject of independent publishing. Unfortunately Wikipedia has literally thousands of articles on non-notable businesses and organizations, most of them created by people closely connected to or hired by the company/organization. The goal is to prevent more of them being created and to gradually examine and delete existing ones where appropriate. Wikipedia:Other stuff exists has more on that. Best, Voceditenore (talk) 11:12, 18 November 2015 (UTC)
I'm also pinging User:Teosocrates, who appears to be the author of the draft. Voceditenore (talk) 11:14, 18 November 2015 (UTC)

Hi,

its just an article and i think have enough references to be published on Wikipedia. I guess, nobility of the references is not required for the general articles, is that?

Rizwan Ashraf 08:22, 19 November 2015 (UTC) Rizwan Ashraf 08:22, 19 November 2015 (UTC)

I have left a comment on your draft. It tells you that it is not suitable for Wikipedia and explains why.
With regard to references, no, the standard is never reduced. Excellence of referencing is always required. Fiddle Faddle 11:31, 19 November 2015 (UTC)

10:38:34, 19 November 2015 review of submission by Pracbrown[edit]

My article has been reviewed, but rejected on the basis of reading more like an advertisement. I have tried to make it as generic as possible, but did want to highlight the original product - perhaps similar to the 'cola' article that mentions Coke. Should I take out all reference to 'Elveden' in the Instant Hedging article, where it is mentioned twice. Many thanks for your assistance, from a first time contributor!

@Pracbrown: Hello, thanks for dropping by! I agree that there is a promotional tone to the piece. In particular, I think the paragraph about Elveden's instant hedge should probably be excised. If the article is about instant hedges in general, then this section seems out of place, as it is devoted to only one instant hedge "brand", promoting them through words like "unusual", references to "demand increas[ing]", and repeated use of the brand's name.
I'd also consider getting rid of the "Why an Instant Hedge" section. This kind of pros-and-cons list looks good on a company website, but it doesn't quite mesh with Wikipedia's encyclopedic point of view requirements, and I'm not sure whether it adds much value to the article, especially given its lack of sources. There's also a referencing issue in the "importance of hedgerows" section, as there are some claims made here that aren't backed up by sources, like the suggestion that instant hedges can help reduce the greenhouse effect. While this is likely true on a trivial level, I'm not sure it's worth mentioning, and either way it will need some sort of citation to back it up.
Work on tightening up the draft, or consider discussing on the Hedge talk page whether portions of this content might be better suited for inclusion in the Hedge article. Other reviewers may want to chime in with their suggestions too. /wia /tlk 14:36, 19 November 2015 (UTC)

Hi, I'm trying to get a page accepted for Riot Jazz Brass Band. I have submitted twice and been turned down by the reviewer SwisterTwister. As far as I can see, I am meeting the notability requirements and I have included lots of references but apparently I'm still falling short. Could anyone give me any specific feedback about my page? Am I close to being accepted? It's my first page so would really appreciate any help that anyone can give me!

Thank You, Nicolas DeCubas

Miamicd11 (talk) 21:18, 19 November 2015 (UTC)

@Miamicd11: Hi, the article has been accepted into the mainspace and can be viewed by anyone from the public. There's no requirement for an article to be in a certain class in order for it to be seen. If you search "West End (Florida) in the Wikipedia search bar, the article should appear.
As for search engines, Wikipedia doesn't control where its articles appear in search engine rankings. That's done by algorithms run by the search engine companies themselves. However, if you search "west end (florida) inurl:wikipedia" on Google, you will see the article appear, so it is certainly out there. Thanks! /wia /tlk 21:30, 19 November 2015 (UTC)

I have created a draft named Draft:Alpus. As I write more while trying to keep it encyclopedic, I keep getting "Not enough sources" declines. While it has derived-from products on the internet that I can find sources, the app is newly published. I wish and plan to keep technical and factual information reside on Wikipedia. Do you have any suggestions how can I simplify the article to be accepted?

Your issue is not simplification, but verification of notability. I have left you what I hope are helpful comments on the draft itself. Fiddle Faddle 15:17, 20 November 2015 (UTC)

09:21:26, 20 November 2015 review of submission by Mikecasey52[edit]

We are a relatively new organisation. We have received publicity in the rAF News (MoD publication). We have appeared on BBC TV as part of the annual Cenotaph remembrance parade. We do not have any other proof other than our webpage. How am I supposed to prove that we exist! Please help, I am a simple person, with no experience of Wikipedia and find the whole process beyond my comprehension. (I am not stupid, but I find your interpretation of the english language totally unfathomable)) Please just answer me in uncomplicated english!

Please, first, confirm that you have visited the draft and read my comment there. Then come back to this section and ask about the elements you do not yet understand. It is far better to ask specific questions than to just ask a very wide question. Fiddle Faddle 10:48, 20 November 2015 (UTC)

Please tell me in simple english exactly what you want me to tell you. Simply telling me that I have to tell you what makes my organisation NOTABLE means nothing to me. Please state an example of what I need to tell you because this is not clear. Just telling me I have more work to do does not help at all.

Mikecasey52 (talk) 11:00, 20 November 2015 (UTC)

Tasks:
  1. Read WP:42
  2. Provide references that meet what is described there
Please ask specific questions when you do not understand. Fiddle Faddle 11:27, 20 November 2015 (UTC)

I have listed the name of a government news paper (THe RAF News is part of the Ministry of Defence, (UK) as a reference to our notability. What more do you wanyt. It is the only reference we can give. Mikecasey52 (talk) 11:33, 20 November 2015 (UTC)

Then, with regret, I need to inform you that it is very unlikely that your organisation passes our stringent criteria for entry. Many organisations exist. Few make the cut. In time your organisation will, if notable, meet our criteria. just not today. Fiddle Faddle 11:38, 20 November 2015 (UTC)

18:14:11, 20 November 2015 review of submission by LG Brichetto[edit]

I would appreciate some feedback on an article I've been improving with content and more sources. It was initially declined because the reviewing editor wanted more sources. I've been told by a second reviewing editor that I was getting closer but needed even more sources. I'm at the point where I think I have enough sources? I want to resubmit it for review today if possible, and would appreciate any suggestions or direction. Thanks https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Draft:Parables_TV.LG Brichetto (talk) 18:14, 20 November 2015 (UTC)

@LG Brichetto: Welcome to the Help Desk! I've taken a look through your sources. While you have lots of references, the issue is that their quality is somewhat lacking at the moment. Recall that in order to show the notability of a company, you will need to provide a variety of reliable, independent sources that discuss the subject in significant detail. Now let's go through the sources:
  • Wikipedia articles can't be used as references for notability's sake;
  • patents are considered primary sources and thus don't help establish notability. Other sources with the primary-source problem include Christianfilmdatabse.com (interviews should be regarded as primary sources, which must be limited to a restricted role), and the PR and businesswire sources;
  • many of the sources websites, like SATaddress, Christiansincable, nrb.org, truli.com, mediapost.com, businessinsider, the Manufacturing Close Up newspaper, olympusat, dnafilmworks, wtjr, The Christian View, CharismaNews, CutCableToday, and OneNewsNow, offer no coverage or less than substantial coverage of the company. Sources need more than a one-sentence blurb or quick passing mention in order to offer the depth needed to show notability. A directory listing is insufficient coverage; and
  • some of the sources, like freethunk.net and multichannel.co, are not reliable sources of information.
This leaves us with three sources that have substantial coverage of Parables TV and that aren't primary in nature: Beliefnet, Gatewaynews, and Dispatchlive. I'm not sure whether Beliefnet is a reliable source, as they don't seem to have an editorial board or policy. Gatewaynews and Dispatchlive are a start, but right now they're the only two remaining sources that meet all the above criteria. I'd suggest cutting out the primary sources and the websites that don't mention Parables TV at all. Then work on finding more substantial, reliable coverage of the company. Thanks, /wia /tlk 13:45, 21 November 2015 (UTC)

Thank you Wikiisawesome. I appreciate you taking the time to thoroughly review the article draft for Parables TV. I've gone back to look at each of the sources used thus far (based on your comments). As you stated, they are mostly primary. My intended purpose was to use these sources to confirm a statement made in the article, but they don't offer substantial or general coverage of the network as a whole. I will add more reliable secondary sources.LG Brichetto (talk) 19:46, 23 November 2015 (UTC)

@Nagendracool: Welcome to the Help Desk. I have added a link to the page i think you have questions about. If not, please specify that. Do you have a specific question about the draft? It was declined due to notability concerns; as stated in the decline message on the page, might want to start by reading Wikipedia's notability policy or the Cliff's notes version at WP:42. In addition, Wikipedia is an encyclopedia and not a promotional blurb, so the tone of the content will need to be addressed as well to meet the "neutral and detached point of view" requirements for content. -- TRPoD aka The Red Pen of Doom 15:38, 21 November 2015 (UTC)

I have read and I believe followed the guidelines for submission but I am not sure how to edit. I looked at dozens of other Hotel entries and tried to stayed brief and on point. Are the sources the issue or is it language? Is it possible to request an entry example that fits the requirements so that I can see where my error lies?Edit888 (talk) 06:40, 22 November 2015 (UTC)

Edit888 (talk) 06:40, 22 November 2015 (UTC)

@Edit888: It's difficult to write a very good hotel article. I could only find one, Trump International Hotel and Tower (Chicago). Wikipedia is forever a work in progress. It contains high quality content and low quality content. If you model your draft on other articles, be sure to use the best Wikipedia has.
Dump Luxury Travel Magazine and Pinterest as references. Poor references detract from the good references and hurt the draft's chances.
Language is not the only way in which a submission can be promotional. Structure and editorial decisions about what to include and exclude are also a factor. Axe the optional "see also" section, which in its current state is promotional. There's no reasonable reason to suppose that most readers, after reading an article on Park Hyatt Sanya Sunny Bay Resort, would wish to read articles on seven other Park Hyatt properties, and only those articles. It's okay to mention that it's the 35th Park Hyatt, but why did you choose to omit the fact that it's also the ~35th top five-star hotel in Sanya (South China Morning Post, 2015)?
Try to satisfy the broadest cross section of readers possible. The draft relies heavily on newspaper and magazine travel sections as sources. That provides information for travelers, but also consider readers interested in its architecture, or construction, or impact on local residents. Worldbruce (talk) 15:33, 22 November 2015 (UTC)

note: this appears to be related to Draft:Gustavo Velasquez -- TRPoD aka The Red Pen of Doom 17:30, 23 November 2015 (UTC)

I have a question about why my submission was denied. Do I just rewrite Mr. velasquez's resume in my own words and resubmit it? VRoyLambert (talk) 15:00, 23 November 2015 (UTC)

Hi VRoyLambert - It is always helpful to include which draft you might be inquiring about. Especially since if we look at your contributions, no drafts are listed (perhaps you submitted it as an ip?) Onel5969 TT me 15:04, 23 November 2015 (UTC)
@VRoyLambert: I think you seriously misunderstand the purpose of Wikipedia. We are not a resume posting service nor do we care what someone has put on their resume. We are an encyclopedia that presents content that reliably published sources that have no connection to the subject have published about the subject. -- TRPoD aka The Red Pen of Doom 17:25, 23 November 2015 (UTC)

This is my first time submitting material to Wikipedia so I'm learning as I go. I submitted the page for posting so I guess it must have been an Ip and not a draft. It appears that everything was OK except the link to Mr. Velasquez's resume that I used. I can just take out that link and resubmit it, right, since I've included most of his resume in the text of my submission? VRoyLambert (talk) 15:13, 23 November 2015 (UTC)

Hi again VRoyLambert - you still need to let us know what draft you are talking about. Referring to it as Mr. Velasquez does not help. Onel5969 TT me 15:36, 23 November 2015 (UTC)

I just resubmitted it as a draft titled Gustavo Velasquez. VRoyLambert (talk) 15:40, 23 November 2015 (UTC)

Hi once again VRoyLambert - Still not seeing anything in your history or anything at AfC which shows a draft called Draft:Gustavo Velasquez - if there were, that link wouldn't be a redlink, but blue. Please go to your draft, highlight the title, and then past it between [[ ]] two sets of brackets. Thanks. Onel5969 TT me 16:23, 23 November 2015 (UTC)

Hi, I'm still unable to find a new draft called Gustavo Velasquez. You had previously submitted a draft Draft:Gustavo Velasquez, but it was deleted due to copyright infringement concerns. Have you rewritten the draft since it was deleted? If so, can you provide us with a link to this draft? Thanks, /wia /tlk 17:22, 23 November 2015 (UTC)

Yes, I've rewritten it, taking out the item that was causing the copyright concerns and I've been trying to resubmit it, but I'm apparently doing it incorrectly. Is there no one I can talk to who can talk me through it? 170.97.167.69 (talk) 18:12, 23 November 2015 (UTC)

I'm still not seeing a draft. When you say you've rewritten the draft, do you mean you've done so in a text document on your computer, or have you actually written a new version of the draft draft on Wikipedia and pressed "save page"? We can't help you if we don't have a link to the draft you're talking about. /wia /tlk 18:58, 23 November 2015 (UTC)
Are you by chance confusing this page with some third party paid Wikipedia article writing service and submitting the "resume" to them by e-mail or some other process while attempting to discuss it here? -- TRPoD aka The Red Pen of Doom 19:08, 23 November 2015 (UTC)

19:07:11, 23 November 2015 review of submission by 67.162.56.21[edit]

I do not understand why this entry was rejected. I have cited many external sources that provide 3rd party, neutral information on the organization. I do not think the article reads like an advertisement. I see it as a very similar entry to the following existing Wikipedia pages: Partners in Health and Digital Green. Should I delete the awards section? What changes can I make to have this article accepted? SAWBO is an organization that has received much media attention worldwide and is therefore "noteworthy" and certainly, like Digital Green and PIH, worthy of a wikipedia page. Thank you!

In general, it is better to have short article with 3 good sources than a spamfest of 20+ mediocre or poor sources, which tend to hide the valid sourcing. I would suggest trimming the article down to only content supported by the Reuters and Chicago Tribune. If you can provide a third major news source like those two (preferably from a different time period that is not spouting the same content from the same press release), you would be in much better shape. -- TRPoD aka The Red Pen of Doom 19:17, 23 November 2015 (UTC)
the America's Heartland and CNet links may also be a good sources - dont just handwave at them, present what they say about the subject. -- TRPoD aka The Red Pen of Doom 19:25, 23 November 2015 (UTC)
