The anthropology of religion involves the study of religious institutions in relation to other social institutions, and the comparison of religious beliefs and practices across cultures. Anthropologists of religion are usually cultural or social anthropologists. These anthropologists study such things as ritual, myth, sacred texts, sacred landscape, shamanism, ghosts, spirits, religious hierarchy, and so forth.
