Burdett is a hamlet in Alberta, Canada within the County of Forty Mile No. 8.^[1] It is located approximately 71 kilometres (44 mi) west of Medicine Hat and 97 kilometres (60 mi) east of Lethbridge on Highway 3. Also, Burdett is regarded as the site of Canada's first irrigation pivot^[2].

Previously incorporated as a village on June 30, 1913,^[3] Burdett dissolved to hamlet status on January 1, 2003.^[4]

Demographics[edit]

In 2001,^[5] Burdett had a population of 264 living in 99 dwellings, a - 7.7% decrease from 1996. With a land area of 2.08 km² (0.80 sq mi), Burdett has a population density of 127.0/km² (329/sq mi).

Notable people[edit]

Harry Edwin Strom (July 7, 1914–October 2, 1984) was a Canadian politician of Swedish descent, who served as Premier of Alberta between 1968 and 1971, and was born in Burdett.
