Education in Somaliland, a region in Somalia, is administered by the Ministry of Education. Education contains both private and public schooling systems.

Education[edit]

Somaliland had a lack of education systems in place (except for traditional Koranic schools), threatening the education of school-aged children. The government of Somaliland, though facing a tough recovery scheme, managed to re-energize the education system. By 1996, 27000 school-aged children were enrolled in primary schools.[1]

Criticism[edit]

Critics cite the outdated public school system, school privatization, inadequate infrastricture.[2] are hindering the education system in Somaliland.

Tertiary Education[edit]

There are an abundance of tertiary education centres in the Hargeisa area, such as the University of Hargeisa, Somaliland University of Technology, Gollis University, and Edna Adan Maternity Hospital.[3]
