Conflicts and international crises

The Stabilization and Reconstruction Task Force (START) provides Canada's response to crisis and conflict situations around the world.

Syria

Since the start of the Syrian uprising, Canada has worked to support the Syrian people. Canada is also at the forefront of international efforts to address the significant security threat posed by the so-called Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL), as well as the humanitarian and political challenges it has created. For information on Canada’s efforts, travel advice, and assistance for Canadians affected by the conflict, see Conflict in Syria.

Ukraine

Canada is among the strongest international supporters of Ukraine's efforts to restore stability and implement democratic and economic reforms. For information on Canada’s efforts, travel advice and assistance for Canadians affected by the conflict with Russia, see Canada’s Response to the Situation in Ukraine.

Canada's humanitarian response

The Government of Canada acts quickly and appropriately when it receives requests for assistance from countries facing disasters, conflicts, or acute food insecurity. For more information, see Response to humanitarian crises.
