Finding a source[edit]

Tips for finding a source yourself

Note that sites like LibGen and Sci-hub offer direct, free access to a very large range of publications, but there are legal questions around their use and neither the Wikimedia Foundation nor the Wikipedia community endorses them.

Making a request
  • A request may be an open question or you may ask for a specific journal, article or work
  • All kinds of sources are possible here: newspapers, magazine article, databases, encyclopedias, court decisions, laws, books, etc.
  • We cannot handle full book scans
  • You may contact research helpers directly or make a request on this page
  • To receive email without disclosing your email address publicly, configure your email in Special:Preferences
  • Provide as much detail as possible: a full citation with author, title, publisher, and date or identifiers like DOI, ISBN ISSN, PMID, etc.
  • Once a request has been fulfilled add the {{Resolved}} template.
  • Filled requests are archived.
  • Requests unfilled after three months will be archived

Fulfilling a request[edit]

  • Anyone may offer advice and fulfill requests.
  • Indicate which part or parts of the request is being handled so others do not duplicate your work.
  • Notify (mention) the requester using {{ping|REQUESTER_USERNAME}}
  • You can point to a pre-existing electronic document by giving its URL ( http://... ). You can share scans of pages or documents using a file-sharing service, provided it is legal, or by emailing the content to the requester.
  • You can email a link or plain text to a requester using the Special:EmailUser feature but for attachments, you need to ask them to mail you first so you can reply.

Copyright tips:

  • Respect copyrights and terms of services of any online services you use.
  • Share content in a limited manner that is targeted at as few individuals as possible to achieve a specific improvement on Wikipedia. All content is shared under a presumed non-commercial, educational, fair use purpose in order to conduct research about topics on Wikipedia and/or to improve Wikipedia content.
  • Share copies privately rather than with a publicly accessible link whenever possible. Copyrighted articles from print publications or copies obtained through online databases should not be uploaded for unrestricted distribution via open websites. Preferably, do not share login access codes for entire websites; rather, share only an individual copy of a resource.
  • Remember that you take on the individual risk when sharing content, and act in a way that is comfortable and safe for you. Individual editors are solely responsible for sharing copyrighted content and assume all legal risks.

Hi. Could anyone help me access a copy of "Chapter 4. Privacy, News Sources, and the Refusal to Testify" in Elliot D. Cohen (ed.) 1936 Guardian article: Guardian digital archive or ProQuest archiver access needed[edit]

I'd like to improve Catherine Winkworth. Two sources would be useful:

"PECCAVI": A Good Story Killed, The Manchester Guardian, 14 February 1936.

and

issue 31 of the Gaskell Society newsletter. March 2001. Skrine, Peter. ‘Peccavi.’ [Catherine Winkworth; R.H. Watts. Gaskell Memorial Tower, Knutsford]. [illus.] p7-9.

Thanks. -- Carbon Caryatid (talk) 12:40, 9 April 2016 (UTC)

The Gaskell Society says, "If you wish to obtain a back copy of a Newsletter, or a copy of an article, please use the “Contact Us” form with your email address and we will advise on availability and cost." There is a good chance that they would supply a scan of the article free to help Wikipedia. John M Baker (talk) 22:33, 9 April 2016 (UTC)
@Carbon Caryatid:For the Guardian article -- This is on Page 6 (1 page), if you can find a paper archive. You can find it here in the digital archive of The Guardian (previously known as The Manchester Guardian). Based on Ulrich's info it appears to me that only the Guardian's digital archive will go back to 1936.Jodi.a.schneider (talk) 17:42, 10 April 2016 (UTC)

Does anyone have the book Evan Thomas Radcliffe: a Cardiff shipowning company?[edit]

Looking for help to verify image sources. A user has uploaded a ton of images to the article Evan Thomas, Radcliffe and Company tagged as {{PD-self}} that obviously aren't PD-self. Hoping that someone can use the book Evan Thomas Radcliffe : a Cardiff shipowning company ([2]) to see if these images come from there (I have a suspicion they do). If they do, I'd like to add page numbers etc. to verify that the images are the dates and ships they say they are. Thanks! --Calliopejen1 (talk) 20:17, 22 April 2016 (UTC)

  • Since we don't provide full books here on Resource Exchange, I think your best bet is to ask elsewhere -- on that article's talk page, on the talk pages of the relevant WikiProjects, or elsewhere online. You can also check GoogleBooks. This is probably more of an issue for Commons than Wikipedia. I've slightly re-worded the section header here just in case. Luther and his Times [print book][edit]

I saw a citation to: Schwiebert, Luther and His Times, pp. 691 f. The exact edition is not given but they are all of 1950 [3], and I presume the words didn't move much. Anyway it's supposed to be about the devil. If you can send p.691 and a couple of succeeding pages, I'll be grateful.

@BU Rob13: you really did a remarkably generous job scanning all those pages, thank you. But... when scanning the endnotte pages you skipped to the notes to the last chapter, not the requested one. And note 54 seem like just what I wanted :(
If you got it really handy, maybe you can send note 54 for chap. 21. But if not, I'll get to it sometime. Thank you. trespassers william (talk) 23:25, 1 May 2016 (UTC)
@Danny lost: I never scanned the notes at all, actually; just the pages themselves, index, and TOC. I still have the book, and I'll run to my library in like 15 minutes and scan the notes for chapter 21. Could you let me know one way or the other whether you wanted any other pages based on the index/table of contents for Devil in Christianity? I'll return the book after I do this scan, so this is "final call". Face-smile.svg ~ RobTalk 23:31, 1 May 2016 (UTC)

Looking for sources on nominations for award-type[edit]

I am currently working on the Tejano Music Award for Female Vocalist of the Year and have found it rather difficult to locate who was nominated for certain years (1981-1984, 1986-1994, 1997, 1999, and 2006). Currently, these sources can be found on the VHS tapes that can be rented in Texas libaries, and were once available through Google's newspaper archive project before it was shut down in 2011. Possible newspapers to have the information could be the San Antonio Express-News (where the awards are annually held) and the Corpus Christi Caller Times. Thanks, – jona 23:28, 26 April 2016 (UTC)

@AJona1992: I've added a further reading section to the article with six clips from NewspaperArchive.com. They cover 1984, 1986, 1989-1991, and 1994. Some list only the three finalists, rather than the entire pool of nominees, but it's a step in the right direction. Worldbruce (talk) 02:10, 27 April 2016 (UTC)
Thank you Worldbruce, really appreciated! – jona 02:18, 27 April 2016 (UTC)

I found something for 1991-1994, 1997, 1999, and 2006. They vary in quality; most are full nominee lists but a couple might not have everyone. ~ RobTalk 15:22, 27 April 2016 (UTC)

Finding source in 1932 issue of Paradise of the Pacific[edit]

Can anybody help me find the exact page numbers, author and section/article of this part of the Paradise of the Pacific along with a pdf copy of the relevant pages?

--KAVEBEAR (talk) 23:23, 20 May 2016 (UTC)

  • KAVEBEAR, since no one has replied, I would just cite the page number, and provide the snippet view as the hyperlink. If the only info you are citing is that tiny mention, you don't need article title and author for proof (and you don't have to use the codes to create a citation). (PS: I added to the section header here for clarification). Unfortunately I'm not sure you are going to get any further help on this RX page. Softlavender (talk) 10:32, 16 June 2016 (UTC)
It is not a problem of citation. I want to read the entire article as well. Hopefully someone out there may have access to this in a nearby library or has interlibrary loan options.--KAVEBEAR (talk) 00:55, 27 June 2016 (UTC)

Reference works discussing Rick Alan Ross[edit]

I am looking for any sources of a broadly "reference" nature, like encyclopedias, dictionaries, or academic overview type works, which discuss Rick Alan Ross at any particular length, so that those works might be able to give an indicator of how our article on the subject might best be structured. Improving the Devon and Cornwall County Division[edit]

Hello, I am currently working to upgrade the Devon and Cornwall County Division article. While I have the information to explain what such a division was, its background and how it ended, I have little information is either freely available (or easily accessible for me) to help expand what the division actually did during its brief existence (1941). I have been able to utilize a few sources to provide some examples, however a little more information would go a long way to helping to produce a more detailed article. I have identified the following sources that provide information, however brief, on the subject. If anyone is able to access these sources, can you either provide me with scans of the relevant pages so I can further update the article or edits yourself with the information at hand?

  • The History of the Duke of Cornwall's Light Infantry, 1939-45, Ernest Gordon Godfrey, Robert Frederick Kinglake Goldsmith; Duke of Cornwall's Light Infantry (Regimental History Committee), 1966

The above source on p. 30 (and beyond) details the 6th Battalion, who were assigned to this division.

  • The History of the Somerset Light Infantry (Prince Albert's), 1919-1945; George Noble Molesworth, Regimental Committee, Somerset Light Infantry, 1951

The 9th Battalion, Somerset Light Infantry were assigned to the division. From Google's snippet view, I was unable to locate any precise pages (possibly p. 72) on the battalion but was able to infer that the book is split up into years and battalions, with the implication there could be some detail that could help flesh out the article.

  • The Oxfordshire and Buckinghamshire Light Infantry Chronicle: The Record of the ... Battalions in the Second German War, Volume 2; James Edmund Henderson Neville; Gale and Polden, 1950 - World War, 1939-1945

While the Ox and Bucks were not part of the division, p.127 makes it very clear that one of their battalions aided the training of the new recruits of the Devon and Cornwall division. There is not enough info on snippet view to gain complete context, or find out exactly what the battalion was doing to help the division. Additional mentions, in the same state, are located on at least pp. 137 and 175, with snippet view hinting at another possible page that it does not show. Again, any access to this would help to create a more clear and detailed account of the division.

Very kind regards, EnigmaMcmxc (talk) 00:34, 14 June 2016 (UTC)

UK Parliamentary Papers 1903[edit]

I am looking for the text, please, of a civil list award to Worthington George Smith within the 1903 UK House of Commons Parliamentary Papers (subscription required) volume XXXVI p.137.

I am trying to pin the award date down because ...

Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

--Senra (talk) 02:02, 14 June 2016 (UTC)

Senra, while I don't have access to the Parliamentary Papers, I note that there is no inconsistency between your two sources. The July 1903 announcement of the civil list was for pensions granted during the year ended March 31, 1903, which obviously would include most of 1902. See, e.g., Leeds and Yorkshire Mercury, July 10, 1903, p. 8 (British Newspaper Archive). John M Baker (talk) 23:25, 14 June 2016 (UTC)
John M Baker: Thank you for the insight but I would still like to see the text of the Parliamentary Papers, if possible, to see if there is anything I missed. Senra (talk) 19:20, 15 June 2016 (UTC)

Improving the Dorset County Division article[edit]

Hi, I am working to improve the Dorset County Division article and do not have access to any regimental histories. If anyone has access to the following two works, could they either amend the article with the information at hand or send me scans of the relevant pages?

  • The Suffolk Regiment (the 12th Regiment of Foot); Guthrie Moir; Leo Cooper Ltd; 1969

P. 115 ff. deals with the 7th Battalion, and hopefully it has some detail about its role during 1941 and its actions with the division.

  • History of the Royal Warwickshire Regiment: 1919-1955; Marcus Cunliffe; Royal Warwickshire Regiment, 1956

Pp. 67-69 appear to deal with the 14th Battalion, and its role and duties with the Dorset division that would hopefully be able to provide some examples to the article to help it become more complete.

Kind regards, EnigmaMcmxc (talk) 21:57, 15 June 2016 (UTC)

3 articles from Brepols[edit]

I would be very grateful if someone could send me the following articles only available online from Brepols (they still somehow largely resist Sci-Hub):

I need them to improve a number of Anglo-Saxon (Old English) themed articles, in particular Blickling Psalter and Old English Bible translations. Thanks, — Primaler (talk) 18:55, 21 June 2016 (UTC)
