Jay Aspin (born August 19, 1949) is a Canadian politician. He was elected to the Canadian House of Commons for the federal Conservative Party of Canada in the 2011 election, representing the electoral district of Nipissing—Timiskaming. Aspin was defeated by liberal candidate Anthony Rota in the 2015 federal election, who aspin defeated in 2011. Aspin lost by 11,000 votes and garnered 14,000 votes total. [1] He finished just 14 votes ahead of Liberal incumbent Anthony Rota in the initial count, triggering an automatic judicial recount[2] which ultimately confirmed his victory by a margin of just 18 votes.[3]

Prior to his election, Aspin had served as a councillor for the City of North Bay, as well as a trustee for the Near North District School Board and its predecessor, the Nipissing Board of Education. He also worked as a business consultant and for the Ontario Northland Transportation Commission.[4]
