Edmonton/Villeneuve Airport or Villeneuve Airport, (ICAO: CZVL), is located 1 nautical mile (1.9 km; 1.2 mi) west of Villeneuve in Sturgeon County, Alberta, Canada.
Expansion[edit]
The closure of the Edmonton City Centre (Blatchford Field) Airport has stimulated expansion of the Villeneuve Airport as a partial replacement. Its land base is growing from 1,400 to 1,555 acres (5.67 to 6.29 km2), the instrument landing system is being upgraded, the number of hangars is increasing from 15 to 21, one runway has been extended to 5,001 ft (1,524 m),[1] and Villeneuve will serve as an alternate to the Edmonton International Airport for medevac flights during stormy weather.[3][4]
Alberta Flying Heritage Museum[edit]
On 17 November 2013 it was announced that the airport will be the site of the new Alberta Flying Heritage Museum. The museum will sit on 13 acres (0.053 km2) and has been given a 26,000 sq ft (2,400 m2) building. The building was donated by Transport Canada and Public Works Canada and was originally at the City Centre airport. The museum which is separate from the Alberta Aviation Museum, will be a hands-on experience and allow aircraft for exhibition to fly in and out. The museum will focus on the history of aviation in Alberta while the Alberta Aviation Museum will focus on Edmonton. As part of the museum the Alberta Aviation Museum's Boeing 737-200 in Pacific Western Airlines (PWA) livery C-GIPW (Fleet #745) was restored to operational capability and, on 29 November 2013, was flown to Villeneuve.[5][6][7][8]
